Tutors’ Entitlements & Obligations.
APT exists to help bring best psychology to people who need it, when they need it. The main way we do this is to produce high quality courses and to select professionals who can do them justice. We accredit these professionals as APT tutors.
Suitably talented and qualified professionals can apply to become APT Licensed In-house Tutors to run APT courses inhouse, thereby saving their employing organization around half the fee it otherwise would be.
Equally, organizations can order in our courses and they will be delivered by one of our accredited tutors chosen from a speciality similar to the delegates' (for example, adult mental health, or children and adolescents, etc).
Tutors' entitlements. APT will:
- Provide good relevant courses for you to run if you choose to do so, for relevant professionals. This means a memory stick with the PowerPoint slides on, a hard copy of the Tutor’s Notes showing the slides and tips on presenting them, exercises for delegates, and usually quizzes and video clips.
- Provide you with the workbooks to give to delegates, and any associated resources for delegates to access from the APT website after the course.
- Register delegates and send them their official attendance certificate.
- Provide delegates with the appropriate level of APT-Accreditation for the training they attend and give them access to any associated post-course resources for the duration of their accreditation.
- Provide you with feedback forms for delegates to complete, and we will compile a post-course document so you can see how the course was evaluated.
- Give you friendly support in your efforts.
For so long as you are an accredited APT tutor you are, subject to the provisos below entitled to:
- Run established APT courses of your choice, so long as you have sufficient knowledge of the subject to make it appropriate for you to do so.
- Run selected days of APT courses of your choice, again so long as you have sufficient knowledge of the subject to make it appropriate for you to do so.
- Run them as frequently as you wish, for appropriate staff of your employing organization(s).
As implied above, you are well-advised to choose courses which correspond with your own areas of expertise – this enables you to talk from your own experience when asked questions.
Your corresponding obligations are:
- The courses / days specified must be run in full, with the standard times adhered to.
- The full course materials relating to the courses / days / modules must be distributed.
- The full APT quality-control elements must be in place.
- All delegates must be registered.
- The prevailing fee must be paid to APT.
- In summary, we want all delegates to have the proper APT experience, whether they are attending a full course, or a day from it.
You may lose your accreditation if:
- You don’t fulfil any of the obligations above.
- Your ratings from course delegates are below the accepted standard (currently an average of 6.x on a 7 point scale, for both presentation and relevance, with no dramatic ‘dips’).
- Note: as an accredited APT tutor you are entitled to attend (or re-attend) the School for Tutors if you think that would be of benefit to you. The online version of this course is free of charge. For prevailing fee for the live version see www.aptmentalhealthtraining.com
- You don't use your accreditation for 2 years or more.
- By breaching copyright legislation, for example by copying or near-copying course material, or by allowing resources associated with an APT course to be used by people not accredited as having attended the relevant course.
- Accreditation may be reviewed at any time, to check whether the criteria above are being fulfilled. In any case it is automatically reviewed every 12 months.
Invitation to run courses outside your own organization:
- As a tutor, you may from time to time be invited by APT to run courses outside of your own organization, for which you will be offered the prevailing fee and expenses.
- There is no guarantee that APT will ask this of you, such opportunities depend on several factors.
- Equally there is no obligation on you to accept such an invitation.

The tutor application process.
There are 6 steps:
1. Check your eligibility.
2. Apply by submitting your abbreviated curriculum vitae.
3. If your brief c.v. is suitable, we will ask you to submit the names of two referees.
4. If your references are suitable, you sit a short online course (free of charge) all about how to present APT courses and the standards required.
5. When you pass the exam at the end of that course, you can then run your chosen APT course, normally in your own organisation. The course has the full workbooks, certification and APT-accreditation for the delegates on the courses.
6. When you have run 3 such courses to the required APT standard then you are accepted as an APT Tutor, and at that point (but not before) can describe yourself as such on your CV and elsewhere.
