The DICES® Risk Assessment and Management System

Used by over 6,000 mental health professionals, the DICES® System is an exciting Risk Assessment and Management System designed for use by whole services and organizations. The DICES® System gives you the tools to assess and manage the risks of: suicide and non-suicidal self-injury, self-neglect and vulnerability, violence to others, and sexual assault. And other risks that are particularly relevant to: older people, children and adolescents, and people who misuse mood altering substances.

It is a leading tool for mental health risk assessment and easily enables you to manage the risks of suicide and non-suicidal self-injury, self-neglect and vulnerability, violence to others, and sexual assault. And other risks that are particularly relevant to: older people, children and adolescents, and people who misuse mood altering substances.

DICES Training

DICES® Training

Training to use the DICES® system is available in various formats, including a 2-day course (suitable for most people) and a 3-day course (covering everything in more depth with more discussion and examples, and is appropriate for ‘DICES® champions’ and senior staff who may wish to have that extra depth). Alternatively, if you only want one part of the system, there are three 1-day modules available on: Risk Assessment, Risk Management, and demonstrating that you are assessing and managing risk.

The RAID<sup>®</sup> Course

DICES® Checklists

The DICES® System gives you access to excellent resources for use with your clients, including Risk Assessment checklists (covering adult mental health, suicide, self neglect and vulnerability, substance misuse, violence, sexual assault, children and adolescents and older people). And Risk Management checklists covering suicide, violence, self neglect and vulnerability, and older people. These resources are available to download (or access digitally) for the duration of your accreditation (3 years renewable)

DICES Evidence

DICES® Evidence

The evidence for the items on the checklists comes mainly from the relevant literature and NICE guidance. The wisdom of having such checklists is partly self-evident, although there is now research-based evidence about the efficacy of using checklists.

DICES Accreditation

Accreditation

Successful completion of DICES® gives you Level 1 accreditation from the Association for Psychological Therapies, and access to the DICES® checklists for 3 years (renewable). There are also options to uprate your levels of accreditation by completing an online exam and submitting a work-based project.
