Increasing demands on teachers.
Mental health and behaviour are central concerns in education today. From anxiety and emotional dysregulation to trauma and neurodiversity, staff are increasingly called upon to support students — and each other — in ways that go far beyond traditional teaching.
Evidence-based and Empowering.
At APT, we provide mental health training for professionals who work directly with young people. Our courses are practical, evidence-based, and delivered by experienced mental health professionals. Whether you’re looking to increase awareness, manage risk, or build a psychologically informed environment, our training is designed to empower teachers and support student wellbeing.
Trusted training.
APT is trusted by education and healthcare organisations, as well as university counselling services. All our courses are designed by mental health professionals, taught by expert tutors, and grounded in psychological evidence and practical experience.
A radical new approach.
Whenever possible the courses here are the authentic APT courses on the subject, not a diluted ‘school version’. And the relevance is ensured by the tutor being highly skilled and experienced in working with children or in schools or both.
The Association for Psychological Therapies (APT) provides the following training that is relevant to teachers, schools, and education.

Helps staff understand the impact of trauma on learning and behaviour, and create environments where pupils feel safe, respected and ready to engage.
A live 1-day course

A live (or specially recorded) 3-day course
For professionals working with young people who have been through experiences which are by any standards 'damaging'.
Adverse childhood experiences may result in changes in the deepest parts of the brain, resulting in effects which are behavioural, cognitive, biological, social and emotional. Examples include: aggressive behaviour, withdrawal, poor self esteem, hostility to others, lack of interest in activities, disturbed sleep and appetite, sadness, anxiety or anger problems, and poor relationships.
A live 3-day course
Powerful psychosocial interventions to help people with ADHD, and those around them.
ADHD has until recently been diagnosed mainly in children and young people, but it often persists into adulthood and even later life. Rarely if ever do adults acquire ADHD spontaneously, without having had it earlier, although many adults were too young for it to have been a diagnosis when they were children. For these reasons, this course takes a comprehensive view of ADHD, so you can help people no matter what their age. Its focus is to help you provide effective psychosocial interventions that are available for those with ADHD and those around them, whether young or old; it does not examine diagnosis.
Yes – all our courses can be delivered online or face-to-face for whole teams. Many courses are also available online for individuals to attend (live or on-demand).
We’d love to talk about your needs and how we can help. Whether you’re planning training for a whole-school team, a small pastoral group, or a college counselling service, we’re here to help.
